How I work in therapy

San Francisco Bay Area, California

The goals of therapy

In order for therapy to be effective, you'll need to have a strong desire to improve your life and be as open as you can be in sharing your hurt and struggles.

Therapy helps you overcome your problems and move forward in your life. It enables you to get in touch with the deeper parts of yourself so that you trust yourself and others more.

Therapy empowers you to be better able to recognize your strengths and build upon them.

As you progress in therapy, you'll be more accepting of life's challenges and become more resilient to future stresses.

Working with me makes it possible for you to have more enjoyment and fun in your life and be kinder to yourself and others.

Life will never be perfect, but you can overcome the past and build the strength to tackle problems in the future.

My counseling style

In my therapy room, I offer a safe place where you'll be accepted for who you are. You will never be judged. I am compassionate and truly care about your wellbeing.

You'll feel understood and supported as you strive to overcome your problems to create a more rewarding life.

I trust that there is a deep part of you that knows what you need. I'll help you get more in touch with that part so that you have more clarity in moving forward.

With my input, you'll ultimately determine the direction of therapy and the goals you want to achieve.

I will always respect you, your problems, and your process in therapy. My ultimate goal is to help you develop the inner and outer resources to help yourself.

Counseling approaches

I have an integrative approach to counseling, focusing on humanistic, attachment, and family systems theories.

I'm flexible and use whatever therapy approaches are most useful to you at any given time.

Humanistic Approach

The humanistic approach guides me in being empathic and compassionate while helping you work with and expand on the inner strengths that you already have.

The goal is for you to accept yourself for all your strengths and weaknesses.

Attachment Theory

Attachment theory helps us understand how you're navigating the relationships in your life - areas that are working in a positive way for you, as well as areas that are causing or have caused you stress and pain.

We work to help you build a more secure and safe attachment style so that your relationships are less stressful and more positive.

Family Systems Theory

Family Systems theory enables us to look at the role your family and other social systems in your life are helping or hindering you from getting what you want.

I utilize the above 3 approaches to help you increase your awareness of your problems and what is causing them.

Together, we then work to heal your stress and pain from the past. Finally, we'll explore alternatives to deal with any future challenges you face.

Therapy Methodology

Emotion-Focused couples Therapy (EFT)

EFT is a research-backed method of marriage therapy that helps couples overcome destructive communication patterns and strengthen their emotional bond with one another.

Using EFT, I teach couples how to be more available to support each other - even in times of stress and conflict - while they regulate their own emotional reactions.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

I offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), the use of ketamine as a complement to psychotherapy. I deliver KAP in my practice in partnership with Journey Clinical, which has a specialized medical team that determines eligibility for KAP, prescribes the medicine and supports me in monitoring outcomes.

TEAM-CBT

While working from the above approaches, I'm also trained in and work from a therapy framework called TEAM-CBT. This is a framework for providing evidence based psychotherapy that uses 4 criteria related to positive therapy outcomes to evaluate how treatment is progressing.
